Cricket Association of Nepal is the oldest sporting body in Nepal,right,even older than ANFA(all nepal football federation). The sport was introduced here by the Ranas who went to Britain or East India Company(present day india/pakistan/bangladesh) as a mean of leisurely pastime.The popularity of the sport surged up during 1990's due to the international successes of Nepalese team,specially age-group team in various competitions like ACC tropy, Age group ACC championship and world cup, national team's success at competitions involving non-test playing teams of asia and of the whole world,such as intercontinental championship ,ACC elite cup,ICC world division leagues,etc.
The other main reason behind growing populaity of cricket in Nepal is due to the media exposure it gets in the regional(south asian) press including multinational TV channels like ESPN,TEN sport,etc..In other words,the wave of popularity of this sport in our neighbouring countries has influenced Nepalese people.
At present ,Cricket remains the 2nd most (arguably the most) popular sport in Nepal behind football.
Domestic structure of cricket in Nepal is very poorly handled though.But again Nepal has huge potential in this sport and time and again they have surpassed the expectations,and have entertained the Nepalese people world over.
