ICC cricket world cup is the showpiece event of ICC(international cricket council).
It remains one of the most lucrative competion in the sporting calender.Organised once in every 4 years,it is the tournament that meets the appetite of cricket fans across the world.It is one such rare occasion where one can see all the major cricketing nations plus qualified best associates team in one grand stage.
The first 3 of 10 World cups held so far,were all organised in england.West Indies became the 1st team ever to win the prestigious World cup beating australia in the 1975 final.West Indies successfully defended their crown again in 1979 dissapointing the homeside england in a thrilling final.West indies though,was in the receiving end the next world cup in 1983 when his side lost in a thrilling final against India.Australia announced their supremacy in the sport in 1987 World cup jointly hosted by india and pakistan, when they beat the favourite England in a thrilling final.1992 ,australia and newzealand co-hosted the tournament and it was the turn of anther asian power Pakistan to lift the cup,again at the receiving end was England.1996,the tournament returned to south asia ,this time,another asian side lifted the tropy,Srilanka.in 1999, the world cup return to the home of cricket ,England,this time,Steve Waugh's great australian team lifted the tropy...The next 2 world cup were held in South africa and westindies respectively.On both occassion,Ricky Pontings great Australian triumphed thrashing India and Srilanka respectively.The last world cup,held again in south asia was won by India beating co-host Srilanka in the final.
